From an idea to a printed book…
we get you there
Who we are…
Turner Editing is dedicated to helping writers become authors. The pathway from having an idea, getting it all down on paper, fine-tuning it, formatting it, printing it, binding it, and finally marketing it is a long one. If you haven’t published your own book, then you may not realise just how involved the process can be. Yes, you can use your inkjet printer and staple your book together, but if you want to see your book released to the world as a real book, then we are here to help.
History
Many, many years ago, Westley was a lone writer, but he soon found a local group of fellow writers. Joining a critique group, he found that he had an ability to spot errors missed by many. He found that not only were his comments accepted, but his speaking ability was also in great need, so he agreed to do presentations to various writers groups throughout the area. Working with published authors, he compiled the ‘rules’ of modern publishing and was soon helping with that aspect as well.
Then in 2015, Westley was acknowledged as a presenter in the writing community, and the president of the local chapter of the Nonfiction Authors Association asked him to introduce her members to the publishing process…From First Idea to Printed Book. To aid in the presentation scheduled for 2016 Apr 20 in Brentwood, CA, Westley created a graphic showing all the steps and who did which ones.
As you can see, the author has quite a bit of responsibility, but…
- unless he has experience in all the different levels of editing
- unless he knows graphic arts for laying out and formatting a book
- unless he can create a cover that will catch the reader’s eye
- unless he understands how to print and bind a book
- unless he appreciates the task of marketing
he’ll have to delegate some of those tasks to others.
We here at Turner Editing welcome the opportunity to work with budding writers as they wander through the various phases. While we focus on the editing phases (all four of them) and the interior, we also work with graphic artists who can create covers that will catch the reader’s eye, finishing the final few segments to get to a published book.
The Company
Although Westley and his compatriots have been helping writers for years individually, creating the company helped formalise their processes. The synergy created by uniting allowed each editor to devote time and effort into specific subsets of expertise, whilst the whole group shares in the activities needed to improve each manuscript presented to them.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to let us know. We’d be glad to discuss your project with you. Ask for a sample edit, so we can demonstrate how we work.
